Surface-mount shielded inductors are designed to reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI) by enclosing the coil in a shielded housing. The housing is typically made from a ring core, which is used to cover the areas around the coil and create a closed magnetic circuit. This helps to block external and internal magnetism from affecting the performance of the inductor, which can improve its reliability and accuracy in applications where EMI is a concern. The use of a shielded housing can also help to protect the inductor from external sources of interference, such as other electronic devices or electrical noise.
